Gary “Wade” Benz, Jr., a cherished member of the Nashville community, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024. His passing is deeply felt by his family, friends, and all who were touched by his warm spirit and engaging personality. Wade Benz was known throughout Nashville as a devoted father, loving husband, son, brother, and a true friend to many. His infectious smile, quick wit, and genuine interest in others made him a memorable presence in every life he touched.
Born in Nashville, Tennessee on November 14, 1979, to Gary and Diane Benz, Wade demonstrated a vibrant personality from a young age. Even before turning 18, he explored careers in modeling, acting, and even news broadcasting, showcasing his diverse talents and charisma. Wade possessed a sharp intellect and was keenly interested in the world around him, following new technology, current events, and politics with passion. His faith was central to his life; he was a devout Christian and a proud alumnus of Christ Presbyterian Academy (CPA), Western Kentucky University, and Belmont University, institutions that shaped his values and outlook. Following his college years, Wade joined his father, Gary, in business, a partnership he deeply valued and cherished. A lifelong learner, Wade was an avid reader, constantly seeking knowledge through biographies and business journals.
Wade’s personal life was as rich and fulfilling as his professional pursuits. He found joy in relaxing vacations on the beaches of Florida. It was there, in 2010, that he met and fell in love with Natalie, who would become his wife. They married the following year and built their family home in the heart of Franklin, Tennessee. Together, they welcomed four beautiful children into the world: Sawyer Kate, Remington Ryan “Remy”, Sullivan Roe “Sully”, and Owen Wade. Wade’s children were the center of his universe, and he relished every moment spent with them. Memorable times included daddy-daughter dances with his eldest, Sawyer, peaceful Sunday morning fishing trips with his son, Owen, fun donut runs and special dates with Remy, and precious moments with his youngest daughter, Sully.
To know Wade Benz was to know a man who never met a stranger. He built lasting friendships effortlessly, remained fiercely loyal to his family, and made a positive impact on countless lives throughout his journey. The Nashville community and beyond mourns the loss of a truly exceptional individual.
Wade Benz is survived by his beloved wife Natalie, his daughters Sawyer Kate, Remington Ryan “Remy”, and Sullivan Roe “Sully”, and his son, Owen Wade; his parents, Gary and Diane Benz; his sister, Stephanie (Jody) McBrayer; his brother Chase (Tessa) Benz; his Father and Mother-in-law, Mike and Kelly Roebuck; his Brothers-in-law, Michael (Hannah) Roebuck, Christopher (Mallory) Roebuck, and Ryan Roebuck; his nieces, Sarah-Clayton McBrayer, Shiloh and Noah Benz, Riley and Blake, and Charlie and Millie; and his nephews, Tripp and Phillip Roebuck.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Wade’s memory to Christ Presbyterian Academy. Donations will support the “Unseen Stories” project, an initiative Wade passionately championed to enhance the campus athletic and wellness facilities. Wade was a dedicated supporter of CPA Athletics and deeply valued the community spirit fostered by school events. Contributions can be made at cpalions.org/give, please designate gifts to “Unseen Stories”.
