Mercedes-Benz EVs to Access Tesla Supercharger Network: A Game Changer for Electric Vehicle Charging

Mercedes-Benz is making significant strides in enhancing the charging experience for its electric vehicle (EV) owners. Starting in February 2025, drivers of Mercedes-Benz battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the United States will gain access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network, encompassing over 20,000 chargers across the United States and Canada. Canadian drivers will follow later in 2025, marking a pivotal moment for Tesla Mercedes Benz collaborations in the EV sector. This integration promises to dramatically expand charging options and convenience for Mercedes-Benz EV customers.

This strategic move integrates the Tesla Supercharger network directly into the Mercedes me Charge service. This seamless integration enables “Plug & Charge” functionality at Tesla Superchargers for Mercedes-Benz drivers. This means a simplified charging process where drivers can simply plug in their vehicle, and the charging session starts automatically, with payments processed smoothly in the background.

For current Mercedes-Benz EV owners with CCS1-compatible vehicles, a North American Charging Standard (NACS) to CCS1 adapter will be made available at authorized Mercedes-Benz dealerships. This adapter ensures safe and efficient charging at Tesla Superchargers, bridging the gap for existing models. Looking ahead, Mercedes-Benz will incorporate NACS ports directly into its electric vehicle lineup starting in 2025. This forward-thinking approach underscores Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to a comprehensive and user-friendly charging ecosystem.

Mercedes-Benz USA CEO Dimitris Psillakis highlighted the importance of this expansion: “As our portfolio of technologically advanced and highly compelling all-electric vehicles expands, we recognize that convenient access to a broad charging network is crucial for a seamless ownership experience. Adopting the NACS standard and opening the Tesla Supercharger network to our battery electric vehicle customers represents a significant leap forward. We are building a strong foundation to introduce even more groundbreaking all-electric vehicles to the market and, together with our dealer partners, are dedicated to reimagining the future of mobility and setting new benchmarks in the luxury segment.”

Industry-Leading Charging Experience for Mercedes-Benz EV Drivers

The integration of the Tesla Supercharger network into Mercedes me Charge significantly enhances Mercedes-Benz’s existing charging service. Mercedes me Charge already provides access to a variety of charging networks, including Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging, IONNA, Electrify America, EVGo, and ChargePoint.

Franz Reiner, Chairman of the Board of Management, Mercedes-Benz Mobility AG, emphasized the customer-centric approach: “By granting our customers access to Tesla Superchargers in North America, we are reinforcing our commitment to offering the widest possible range of charging options. The rapidly growing network of charging points accessible through Mercedes me Charge will now exceed 110,000 public charging points across the United States and Canada. This expansion provides Mercedes-Benz drivers with an industry-leading charging experience, ensuring they can charge conveniently wherever and whenever they need to.”

Mercedes-Benz BEV drivers will benefit from the effortless “Plug & Charge” functionality at Tesla Superchargers. This feature streamlines the charging process by automatically initiating the charging session upon plugging in and handling payment processing seamlessly. A complimentary software update, performed by authorized Mercedes-Benz dealerships, will ensure compatibility and smooth “Plug & Charge” operation at Tesla Superchargers for all compatible vehicles. Customers will be contacted directly to schedule this update. Charging can also be initiated through the Mercedes-Benz app or the MBUX infotainment system, offering multiple convenient options.

Tesla Superchargers will be integrated into Mercedes-Benz’s “Navigation with Electric Intelligence.” This intelligent navigation system guides drivers to the most efficient routes, factoring in optimal charging stops and charging times. Furthermore, Mercedes me Charge provides real-time information on charger locations, availability, status, and pricing for all in-network charging points, accessible via the Mercedes-Benz app and the MBUX infotainment system. This comprehensive information system empowers drivers to make informed charging decisions and plan their journeys effectively.

Adapter Solution for Current Mercedes-Benz EV Models

Recognizing the needs of current Mercedes-Benz EV owners with CCS1-compatible charging ports, the company will release a Mercedes-Benz approved NACS to CCS1 DC fast charging adapter. This adapter will enable these vehicles to utilize Tesla Superchargers, ensuring no Mercedes-Benz EV owner is left behind in this charging network expansion. The adapter will be available for purchase at authorized Mercedes-Benz dealerships in the United States in Q1 2025 for $185, and in Canada in Q2 2025, with Canadian pricing to be announced closer to launch. Customers will be notified when the adapters become available. It is important to note that this Mercedes-Benz approved NACS to CCS1 adapter is the only adapter certified for safety and full compatibility with all Mercedes-Benz BEVs and NACS DC fast charging points, ensuring peace of mind for users.

Future-Proofing with Native NACS Integration

Starting in 2025, Mercedes-Benz will begin integrating NACS ports directly into its new electric vehicle lineup for the North American market. This strategic move will eliminate the need for an adapter for future Mercedes-Benz EVs, allowing them to connect directly to any NACS DC fast charging point. This native integration further enhances charging convenience and underscores Mercedes-Benz’s long-term commitment to the NACS standard and the Tesla Supercharger network.

Mercedes-Benz’s Holistic EV Charging Ecosystem

The adoption of NACS and the inclusion of the Tesla Supercharger network are integral components of Mercedes-Benz’s comprehensive approach to EV charging. In November 2023, Mercedes-Benz launched its High-Power Charging network in North America, aiming to elevate the public charging experience for all EV drivers. These Mercedes-Benz branded 400kW chargers are being deployed across multiple states, with expansion planned to reach half of US states by 2026. Furthermore, the IONNA joint venture, a collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and seven other major automakers, is set to launch its first charging stations this year. IONNA aims to establish an additional 30,000 high-power charging points across North America, contributing significantly to the growth of a robust and accessible EV charging infrastructure and promoting broader EV adoption. The partnership between tesla mercedes benz in charging infrastructure marks a significant leap towards a more convenient and accessible future for electric vehicle owners.
