The ICC has sanctioned Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lanka player Asitha Fernando 25 per cent of their match fees after a heated confrontation on the field. The incident occurred on 24 August 2026 during the Test match in Colombo. During the fixture, Jaiswal made physical contact with Fernando with his head while on the square, drawing swift action from match officials. Both Cricinfo and the ICC confirmed the sanction issued to the players for bad behaviour.
Following the ruling, Jaiswal took the penalty but maintained his position. He stated that he did the right thing during the heated moment. Speaking to Indulge Express, he insisted that India would continue to compete fiercely in their next matches despite the recent clash.
