The remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel moved across Las Vegas on October 12, turning streets into rivers and setting a new rainfall record for the city. Southern Nevada was the most affected area, with flash floods swamping roads across the west valley.
Despite the heavy rain, Lake Mead levels saw little change. Rachel also sent large waves crashing into California beaches and homes. Flood risk across the southwestern U.S. has since dropped significantly. Separate storms connected with Rachel killed five people in Mexico.
