A federal judge blocked the Trump administration’s plan to restrict sugary drinks, candy and soda under the SNAP food benefit program.
The proposed rule was set to curb what food stamp recipients could buy as part of an initiative to lower obesity rates among hard‑pressed families.
The judge ruled the administration didn’t have unquestioned authority to enforce such a ban.
For now, SNAP benefits continue as before, allowing users to purchase those items unchanged.
The proposal had ignited months of criticism from lawmakers and advocacy groups.
