Port Talbot station appeared at a modern enclosed footbridge with ticket office and waiting areas plus surveillance and elevators to every platform as part of the Wales Station Improvement Scheme. The upgrade supports a park-and-ride and additional car parking, along with improved facilities for cyclists, buses, and taxis. It is connected to wider Port Talbot regeneration efforts such as the Harbourside development and town-centre upgrades. Funding from a mix of the Welsh Government, Network Rail, and European/other funds, with Neath Port Talbot Council and local transport partners.
Buses will replace trains between Port Talbot Parkway and Swansea for 12 days from the end of January as Network Rail carries out essential upgrades to the railway.
