The casualties from the Tyneside Brigades were appalling, and many of the casualties were never identified, and lie in unmarked graves. John Woodall Marshall was killed on the 1st July 1916. He was originally buried 200 yards East of Bacourt, east of Albert, but was re-interned at Gordon Dump Cemetery in December 1919. Originally the War Office sent a Telegram advising John’s mother that John was wounded on the 2nd July and was missing. This was later amended to state that he had in fact died...
