Acclaimed artist Yayoi Kusama has died. She continued painting until right before she died. She suffered hallucinations during her childhood. Kusama turned those childhood hallucinations into famous art. Polka dots served as her primary theme. They were featured in her many paintings and sculptures.

Kusama won the Praemium Imperiale award for her achievements in art. Her work gained global fame. One creation, the Red Pumpkin artwork, became a symbol of Naoshima island. She remained active until her death. She created art rooted in her early childhood experiences and her signature polka dots.
