Heat across countries north of the Alps is now hitting forty in a plethora of cities. An alert was first issued in the Netherlands when temps rose above seven-and-thirty, and officials have kept it in place through Saturday. In Amsterdam people are hanging curtains outside to keep the relentless sun out. The scorching weather is testing homes built for colder months.
The WHO say more than 1300 extra deaths have been linked to the heat across the region. Nighttime levels stay high, experts say. They urge folks to drink water, stay out of the sun at the worst times and find shade.
