Luis Enrique Carrera Obituary: Remembering a Life in Texas City

Luis Enrique Carrera, aged 75, a resident of Texas City, Texas, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, in Galveston, TX. Born on January 10, 1942, in the vibrant city of Quito, Ecuador, to his parents, Jose and Isabel Carrera, Luis lived a full and meaningful life.

In his early career, Luis showcased his artistic talent as a painter, demonstrating a keen eye for detail and craftsmanship. Later in life, he transitioned to become a dedicated cable splicer. This profession allowed him the opportunity to travel and experience different parts of the country, enriching his life with diverse experiences. Even in retirement, Luis remained active and engaged with his passions.

A passionate sportsman in his younger years, Luis had a deep love for soccer. He not only enjoyed watching the sport but actively participated, playing with enthusiasm and skill. Beyond his professional life and hobbies, Luis’s greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He cherished every moment spent with them, creating lasting memories.

Luis was predeceased by his parents, Jose and Isabel Carrera. He is survived by his loving daughters: Elsa Jolly and her husband Steve of Texas City, Jessenya Akerman and her husband Oded of Houston, and Jessenya’s mother, Pilar Carrera. He is also survived by his son: Ricky Carrera and his wife Anita of New Braunfels, along with Elsa and Ricky’s mother, Elsa Vasquez. His siblings, sisters Laura Carrera, Maruja Carrera, and Mercedes Carrera, and brothers Oswaldo Carrera, Federico Carrera, Edgar Carrera, and Efrain Carrera, also mourn his passing. Luis’s legacy continues through his four cherished grandchildren: Hayley Jolly, Tyler Jolly, Alayna Carrera, and Diego Carrera.

A visitation to honor Luis’s life will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2017, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Texas City. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00pm during the visitation. Funeral Services are scheduled for Friday, September 8, 2017, at 10:00am, also at St Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Texas City. Following the service, interment will take place at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Guardian Angels and Sandcastle Dialysis for their unwavering support and compassionate care. Special thanks are also extended to Federico for his loving devotion and care for his brother over the past two years. Luis Enrique Carrera will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
