Recently, I expanded my collection with Norev’s rendition of the facelifted W222/V222 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, prompting me to showcase my 1:18 W222 models in an outdoor setting. While modest compared to some collections, I believe these models offer a great representation of the iconic Mercedes Benz W222 S Class. Instead of lengthy reviews, I’ll provide concise insights alongside the photos.
(1) Norev Mercedes V222 Facelifted MOPF (S560) – Selenite Grey
The Norev Mercedes Benz W222 S Class facelift model in Selenite Grey immediately impresses with its high-quality paint finish. The sheen and depth of the Selenite Grey accurately capture the sophisticated character of the S560. The wheels are another highlight, being meticulously detailed and mirroring the elegance of the actual Mercedes Benz W222 S Class rims. Inside, the interior is surprisingly detailed for a model in this scale, with recognizable features of the S-Class cabin.
However, the front fascia’s proportions seem slightly off, a minor point but noticeable to keen eyes familiar with the Mercedes Benz W222 S Class design. Panel gaps on the hood are also uneven, detracting a bit from the otherwise excellent finish. Interestingly, this model proved less photogenic than expected. Capturing the right angle to truly showcase its beauty was challenging, unlike the other W222 models in my collection. Finally, it lacks the graceful flow of the pre-facelift Mercedes Benz W222 S Class, appearing somewhat more angular.
(2) Norev Mercedes W222 (S550) – Metallic Black
Switching to the pre-facelift Norev Mercedes Benz W222 S Class in Metallic Black, the paint quality remains superb. The deep black finish enhances the S-Class’s imposing presence. Like the facelifted version, the wheels are excellently replicated, adding to the model’s overall premium feel. The interior detailing is consistent, maintaining Norev’s standard for 1:18 scale models of the Mercedes Benz W222 S Class.
One of the strongest aspects of this pre-facelift Mercedes Benz W222 S Class model is its timeless aesthetic. It arguably possesses a more enduring elegance compared to the updated front end of the facelifted version. Minor drawbacks include slightly uneven door shut lines, a common issue in models of this type. The hood star ornament also feels a bit flimsy, a minor detail but worth noting for collectors.
(3) GT Spirit Brabus 900 Rocket – Black
Finally, the GT Spirit Brabus 900 Rocket model of the Mercedes Benz W222 S Class takes a different approach, focusing on high-performance and aggressive styling. The stance is immediately striking, sitting lower and wider, perfectly capturing the Brabus Rocket’s powerful presence. The black paint is flawlessly applied, enhancing the car’s menacing look.
Being a resin model, it comes with the usual limitations: sealed body and fixed windows. The wave windows, a common resin model issue, were particularly pronounced in this model. To address this, I carefully cut out the side windows to create a “windows down” appearance. While not ideal, this modification significantly improved the model’s look by eliminating the distracting wavy reflections.
In conclusion, this small collection highlights the appeal of the Mercedes Benz W222 S Class in 1:18 scale. Each model, despite minor flaws, captures the essence of the W222 generation, from the elegant S550 and sophisticated facelifted S560 to the aggressive Brabus 900 Rocket. For enthusiasts of the Mercedes Benz W222 S Class, these models offer a tangible way to appreciate this iconic luxury sedan.
