Mercedes-Benz Sales Q3 2024: Plug-in Hybrids and Top-End Vehicles Lead Growth in Latest Report

Mercedes-Benz USA has released its Q3 2024 sales figures, showcasing a robust performance driven by significant growth in key segments. The report indicates a strong market reception for Mercedes-Benz’s diverse portfolio, particularly in plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and top-end models. Let’s delve into the details of this encouraging sales quarter.

According to the latest report, Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) announced group sales of 85,037 passenger cars for Q3 2024. When combined with Mercedes-Benz Vans sales of 12,769 units, the total sales volume for MBUSA reaches an impressive 97,806 vehicles for the quarter. This overall performance reflects a positive upward trend in Mercedes-benz Sales, indicating a regaining of market momentum throughout the third quarter of the year, with consistent year-over-year growth across all three months.

Dimitris Psillakis, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA, highlighted the factors contributing to this success: “In the third quarter we regained momentum with year-over-year growth for all three months in the quarter, culminating in 9% growth overall year-to-date. Our strong Q3 sales results were fueled by robust demand for our outstanding product portfolio—particularly Plug-in Hybrid and top-end vehicle models—combined with stronger inventory supply at the retail level.” Despite acknowledging challenges at the end of the quarter due to severe weather events, the CEO expressed gratitude to dealer partners for their dedication to customer safety and service.

PHEV Sales Skyrocket

A standout achievement in the Q3 report is the extraordinary surge in Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle sales. The PHEV segment experienced a remarkable 213% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This impressive growth is attributed to the introduction of several new and highly anticipated models, including the GLC 350e 4MATIC, AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE, AMG S 63 E PERFORMANCE, and AMG GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE. These additions to the Mercedes-Benz lineup have clearly resonated with consumers seeking electrified driving experiences without fully transitioning to all-electric vehicles just yet, significantly boosting mercedes-benz sales in the PHEV category.

Top-End Vehicle Segment Demonstrates Strong Growth

The demand for Mercedes-Benz’s top-tier vehicles also remains robust. Sales in the Top-End vehicle segment increased by 33% in Q3 2024 compared to the previous year’s quarter. Within this segment, Mercedes-AMG high-performance models played a crucial role, with sales totaling 9,537 units, marking a 31% increase year-over-year. This data underscores the continued appeal and desirability of Mercedes-Benz’s luxury and performance offerings at the higher end of the market, contributing significantly to overall mercedes-benz sales figures.

Core and Entry Segments Show Positive Momentum

The “Core” segment of Mercedes-Benz vehicles also witnessed substantial growth, with a 43% increase in sales compared to Q3 2023. The GLC emerged as the volume leader for this quarter, experiencing an impressive 144% year-over-year increase, driven by improved availability. Furthermore, demand for the GLE also rose by a healthy 34% in Q3 2024 compared to the same period last year.

Similarly, the “Entry” segment showed positive sales trends, increasing by 27% compared to the prior year’s quarter. This growth was fueled by the availability of models like the CLA, GLA, and GLB in Q3 2024. Notably, the CLA model experienced a remarkable 114% increase with 4,717 units sold, and the GLA saw an exceptional 668% increase compared to Q3 2023.

Vans and Electric Vehicle Mix

Mercedes-Benz Vans contributed significantly to the overall sales volume, with 12,769 units sold in Q3 2024. The introduction of the eSprinter, Mercedes-Benz USA’s first fully electric van in North America, has also begun to impact sales, contributing to a total of 667 units sold year-to-date within the vans category.

While electric vehicle (EV) group sales mix represents 10% of overall passenger car sales in 2024, there is still room for growth in this sector as Mercedes-Benz continues to expand its EV offerings and infrastructure. This 10% figure indicates a developing trend towards electrification within mercedes-benz sales, and further growth is anticipated in the coming years as consumer adoption of EVs increases.

Year-to-Date Performance and Future Outlook

Overall, total passenger car group sales for Mercedes-Benz are up 9% year-to-date compared to the previous year. This positive year-to-date performance, combined with the strong Q3 results, positions Mercedes-Benz USA favorably as they move into the final quarter of 2024. The focus on PHEVs and top-end vehicles has proven to be a successful strategy, and the brand is poised to capitalize on these trends to further strengthen its market position and drive future mercedes-benz sales growth.
