Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) is revving up its Automotive Technician Internship Program (ATIP) with an exciting new partnership with Mercedes-Benz USA. Starting in Spring 2024, aspiring automotive technicians in Oklahoma City will have a unique opportunity to specialize in one of the world’s leading luxury automotive brands. This collaboration integrates Mercedes-Benz specific curriculum into OCCC’s already robust ATIP, allowing students to earn valuable Mercedes-Benz factory certifications, setting them on a direct path to successful careers at Mercedes-Benz service centers right here in Oklahoma.
“The addition of Mercedes-Benz to our program is a significant step forward,” stated Brad Walker, Department Chair for Automotive Technology at OCCC. “We are now offering specialized training in seven major manufacturers, covering an impressive 14 brands. This expansion directly addresses the growing demand for highly skilled automotive technicians in the region, and particularly for brands like Mercedes-Benz of OKC OK.”
OCCC’s ATIP program is known for its comprehensive approach, already providing training across a wide spectrum of manufacturers including General Motors (Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac), Honda (Honda and Acura), Nissan (Nissan and Infiniti), Toyota (Toyota and Lexus), Hyundai (Hyundai and Genesis), and Subaru. The inclusion of Mercedes-Benz further solidifies OCCC’s position as a leading automotive technology training institution in Oklahoma.
The ATIP program at OCCC is designed for maximum flexibility, allowing students to enroll at any point during the school year and offering both day and night classes to accommodate diverse schedules. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning in state-of-the-art labs, combined with mandatory on-the-job training at independent shops, franchises, fleet operations, or dealerships. This practical experience is crucial for students seeking to excel as Mercedes-Benz technicians in Oklahoma City and beyond.
“Oklahoma City Community College is committed to being responsive to the needs of our local industries,” emphasized John Claybon, OCCC Dean of Business and Information Technology. “By partnering with Mercedes-Benz, we are ensuring that our graduates are equipped with the precise skills and certifications sought after by top employers, including Mercedes-Benz dealerships in OKC.
