Why This Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class Sold for an Astonishing $38,000

While many models from Mercedes-Benz are celebrated and highly valued by collectors, the GLK compact crossover is not typically considered to be in the same league as iconic models like the 500E or the 300SL Gullwing. However, exceptions always exist, and this particular GLK is a prime example. Recently, a 12-year-old upscale crossover utility vehicle was sold on Bring A Trailer for an impressive $38,000. The question is, what makes this Mercedes-benz Glk-class so special?

If you’re not intimately familiar with the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class, you’re not alone. Compact luxury crossovers often fly under the radar. Think of the GLK as Mercedes-Benz’s answer to the BMW X3 in the early 2010s. It’s a relatively compact and boxy vehicle based on the C-Class platform, designed to be versatile enough for the demands of urban professionals while still being easy to park in city centers.

Initially, all Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class models in the U.S. market were equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission. This is the same configuration found in this 2012 GLK 350. The engine delivers 268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, providing smooth and responsive power. This powertrain allows the crossover to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in a respectable 6.5 seconds, as tested by Car And Driver. While the performance is certainly good, it’s not the sole reason for the high selling price.

The primary reason this GLK 350 commanded a $38,000 price tag on Bring A Trailer is its incredibly low mileage. It has only 1,019 miles on the odometer. This vehicle is arguably the finest Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class in existence outside of the manufacturer’s own collection. Finding another in comparable condition would be an almost impossible task.

As a result of its minimal use, every aspect of this 12-year-old crossover is in perfect condition. The undercarriage appears flawless, the headlight lenses are crystal clear, the carpets are pristine, and the upholstery is immaculate. Despite some of the listing photos being of slightly lower resolution, the higher-resolution images confirm that this Mercedes-Benz GLK 350 is as close to showroom condition as you can find in 2024.

Interestingly, the winning bid for this Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class was not a single, impulsive offer. In the final hour of the auction, five different bidders actively competed, driving the price up from $28,500 to the final $38,000. This indicates that the high hammer price was not just due to one individual’s strong desire, but rather a collective appreciation from multiple enthusiasts. The winning bidder even commented, “This has been a ‘Bucket list vehicle’. So, I know I paid A Lot, but where else would you find a virtually ‘NEW’ one of these!”

This $38,000 sale of a 12-year-old Mercedes-Benz GLK compact crossover serves as a reminder that car enthusiasm is diverse. Some people are passionate about sports cars, others about trucks, and some develop a fondness for a specific crossover utility vehicle. The more vehicles that are enjoyed and valued, the richer the car culture becomes. Ultimately, the most appealing classic cars on the road are not always the predictable choices, but often the ones that surprisingly still exist and are cherished. It’s quite possible that this Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class will be a highlight at future car enthusiast gatherings, much like unexpected models at events like Radwood.
