Amazon Goes Big on Electric with Landmark Mercedes-Benz Lorry Order

Amazon has solidified its commitment to sustainable logistics by placing the largest order for electric heavy goods vehicles in its history, selecting the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 as its flagship model. This landmark deal, also the most substantial electric truck order ever received by Mercedes-Benz Trucks, signals a significant shift towards electrification in the heavy-duty transport sector.

More than 200 of these cutting-edge electric lorries, specifically the eActros 600, will be integrated into Amazon’s European transportation network, operating across high-mileage middle-mile routes. These routes are crucial for connecting Amazon’s vast network of fulfillment centers, sortation facilities, and delivery stations. With over 140 units destined for the UK and more than 50 for Germany, these zero-emission benz lorries are projected to transport over 350 million packages annually, all while eliminating tailpipe emissions.

This significant order follows rigorous real-world testing of a near-series eActros 600 prototype at one of Amazon’s German logistics hubs. The successful trial paved the way for this large-scale adoption, demonstrating the eActros 600’s readiness for demanding operational environments.

Karin Rådström, Chairwoman of the Board of Management of Daimler Truck AG, expressed her enthusiasm: “We are very pleased that Amazon, a pioneer in the transformation towards alternative drives, has chosen the eActros 600, a gamechanger for sustainable transportation.”

Stina Fagerman, Head of Marketing, Sales and Services Mercedes-Benz Trucks, further emphasized the importance of the partnership: “Amazon is an important customer for us on the path towards CO2-neutral transport. A near-series prototype of the eActros 600 has already been trialed by Amazon, providing valuable insights before the start of series production. We are therefore very pleased about this major order for the eActros 600.”

Andreas Marschner, Vice President of Worldwide Operations Sustainability at Amazon, highlighted the global significance of this move: “The order of more than 200 eActros 600 underlines our commitment to being a leader in electrifying our transportation network in Europe. It is the biggest electric heavy truck order by Amazon to date anywhere in the world and is an important step as we work to achieve our Climate Pledge commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions across our operations by 2040.”

The Mercedes-Benz eActros 600: A New Era for Electric Lorries

The eActros 600 is engineered for long-haul operations, boasting a high-capacity battery exceeding 600 kilowatt hours[1]. This substantial energy storage, coupled with a newly developed, highly efficient electric drive axle from Mercedes-Benz, enables the Benz Lorry to achieve a remarkable range of 500 kilometers[2] on a single charge. This range is achieved under realistic operating conditions, with a 40-ton gross combination weight, and can be further extended depending on driving style and route topography. Significantly, the eActros 600 is designed for daily mileages well over 1,000 kilometers, achievable through strategic intermediate charging during legally mandated driver breaks, even with current CCS charging infrastructure up to 400 kW. Megawatt Charging System (MCS) capability will be available in the future, further reducing charging times.

Beyond its technical capabilities, the eActros 600 presents a visually striking design, characterized by minimalist aesthetics, clean lines, and an aerodynamic form optimized for efficiency. For fleet operators, this electric benz lorry is poised to redefine profitability in the long-distance transport segment, offering a viable and sustainable alternative to traditional diesel trucks. Mercedes-Benz Trucks is committed to providing a comprehensive ecosystem for electric transportation, encompassing not just the vehicle but also consulting services, charging infrastructure solutions under the TruckCharge brand, and dedicated support services.

The eActros 600’s real-world performance has been rigorously validated through extensive testing, including customer deployments and the demanding “eActros 600 European Testing Tour 2024.” This 15,000-kilometer all-electric journey across 22 countries, with a 40-ton gross combination weight, showcased the lorry’s robustness and reliability. Further solidifying its position as an industry leader, the eActros 600 was honored with the prestigious “International Truck of the Year 2025” award, judged by 24 European commercial vehicle journalists. Series production of the eActros 600 commenced at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth am Rhein at the end of 2024, marking a new chapter in electric mobility for heavy commercial vehicles.
