The profile of the AMG E43 is accentuated by striking 19-inch AMG five-spoke light-alloy wheels, finished in high-gloss black. At the rear, the sporty aesthetics are amplified by dual chrome-plated quad-flow exhaust tailpipes. The rear diffuser is presented in silver chrome, while a body-colored spoiler lip on the trunk lid comes as standard, completing the cohesive and dynamic design.
Sporty and Detailed Interior
Inside the Mercedes-AMG E43, the dynamic character is amplified by numerous bespoke details. Sport seats offer enhanced lateral support, ensuring both driver and passenger are securely positioned during spirited driving. The MB-Tex/DINAMICA upholstery, with optional nappa leather, features a unique pattern and red topstitching. This red stitching detail is echoed on the door center panels and dashboard, finished in MB-Tex. Exclusive pedals, a black roof liner, and red seat belts further emphasize the sporty ambiance.
The multifunction sports steering wheel, wrapped in black nappa leather with red contrasting topstitching, features Touch Control and a flattened bottom section, perfectly suited for dynamic handling. The AMG instrument cluster provides essential driving information in a clear, driver-focused layout. Available with a fully digital, high-resolution 12.3” screen, it is optimized for a performance-oriented driving experience.
The Potent AMG 3.0-liter V6 Biturbo Engine
At the heart of the Mercedes-AMG E43 lies the 3.0-liter V6 Biturbo engine, engineered for high power output with a focus on fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. The impressive 396 hp output is achieved through advancements like new, larger turbochargers and an elevated charge-air pressure of 16 psi. Positioning the two turbochargers close to the engine minimizes lag, resulting in near-instantaneous power delivery.
Drawing from Formula 1 technology, the cylinder liners feature NANOSLIDE® coating, also used in Mercedes-Benz’s V6 hybrid turbo engines. This exceptionally durable and wear-resistant coating reduces friction, improving overall engine efficiency. Similarly, the spray-guided fuel injection system operates at pressures up to 2900 psi, further optimizing combustion.
A red aluminum insert on the engine cover visually distinguishes the AMG powerplant.
9G-TRONIC Transmission: Quick and Efficient
The 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission in the AMG E43 is specifically calibrated to meet the demands of a high-performance vehicle. Its multiple downshift capability allows for rapid bursts of acceleration, while the double-declutching function in “Sport” and “Sport Plus” modes enhances the emotional driving experience. Defined ignition interruption technology also ensures faster gear changes compared to “Eco” and “Comfort” modes.
A dedicated button on the center console enables selection of “Manual” mode, allowing drivers to take full control using the steering wheel paddles. In manual mode, the transmission holds the selected gear, even at the engine speed limit, offering maximum driver engagement.
AMG AIRMATIC Sport Suspension for Enhanced Agility
To achieve superior agility, neutral cornering, and enhanced traction at high speeds, AMG engineers developed a unique sport suspension based on the AIR BODY CONTROL multi-chamber air suspension system. The Adaptive Damping System offers three selectable modes: “Comfort,” “Sport,” and “Sport Plus.” This range provides versatility, from comfortable cruising on long journeys to dynamic, sporty handling.
The four-link front axle features specialized steering knuckles and load-bearing joints, with all components optimized for rigidity. Increased negative camber on both front and rear axles improves lateral dynamics, and the elastokinematics of both axles are designed to be generally stiffer. These refinements collectively enhance agility and driving dynamics.
Rear-Biased AMG Performance 4MATIC
The AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive system is configured with a rear-biased torque distribution (31:69 front to rear). This setup enhances driving dynamics and lateral acceleration, while also improving traction during acceleration.
Integrating the permanent all-wheel drive with the 9G-TRONIC transmission represents a conceptual shift. The single-stage transfer case is now flange-mounted to the 9G-TRONIC as a separate unit, unlike previous generations where it was integrated into the 7G-TRONIC PLUS. This modular design allows for easier torque distribution adjustments across different models, enabling more tailored vehicle characteristics.
The new system also boasts improved efficiency, reduced friction, and lower weight compared to its predecessor. Its compact design ensures no compromise in passenger or luggage space.
AMG DYNAMIC SELECT: Tailor-Made Driving Modes
With five AMG DYNAMIC SELECT transmission modes – “Eco,” “Comfort,” “Sport,” “Sport Plus,” and “Individual” – drivers can personalize the AMG E43’s driving characteristics. These modes adjust key parameters including engine response, transmission behavior, suspension settings, and steering feel, ranging from efficient and comfortable to intensely sporty.
Regardless of the selected AMG DYNAMIC SELECT mode, drivers can instantly engage manual mode by pressing the “M” button, shifting gears exclusively via the steering wheel paddles. Suspension settings can also be independently adjusted.
“Sport” and “Sport Plus” modes prioritize driving dynamics, featuring an agile accelerator pedal response, direct setup, and emotionally engaging gear shifts with reduced shift times and double-declutching. An elevated idling speed contributes to quicker starts and faster acceleration from a standstill.
In “Eco” mode, fuel efficiency is maximized through the ECO start/stop function and a gliding function. When the driver releases the accelerator between 31 and 99 mph, the clutch disengages, decoupling the engine from the powertrain and reducing engine speed to idle, minimizing driving resistance.
Direct and Responsive Sports Steering
The speed-sensitive sports steering on the AMG E43 features a variable ratio, providing precise and authentic feedback. Steering power assistance offers two modes: “Comfort” and “Sport.” These characteristics are automatically activated based on the selected AMG DYNAMIC SELECT mode or can be customized in “Individual” mode. “Sport” mode increases manual torque, enhancing feedback on driving conditions.
A large braking system with internally ventilated compound brake discs ensures reliable and rapid deceleration.
