Upgrade Your Mercedes with Adaptive Cruise Control: A Retrofit Guide

Enhance your driving experience with adaptive cruise control for your Mercedes-Benz. Many Mercedes models already possess the foundational hardware required for this advanced safety and convenience feature. Upgrading is often simpler than you might think, typically just requiring a steering wheel button replacement and a straightforward coding process.

This guide will walk you through retrofitting adaptive cruise control (also known as Distronic or radar-guided cruise control) to your compatible Mercedes model. We’ll cover compatible models, what the retrofit entails, and how you can easily enable this feature, even remotely.

Is Your Mercedes Ready for Adaptive Cruise Control?

Many modern Mercedes vehicles from 2018 onwards are pre-equipped with much of the necessary hardware for adaptive cruise control. This includes:

  • A-Class (W177): 2018+ (Including 2023+ Facelift Models)
  • B-Class (W247): 2019+ (Including 2023+ Facelift Models)
  • CLA (C118): 2019+ (Including 2023+ Facelift Models)
  • C-Class (W205): 2018+ (W206 2022+ models also supported)
  • GLC (X253): 2019+ (X254 2023+ models also supported)
  • GLA (H247): 2020+ (Including 2023+ Facelift Models)
  • GLB (X247): 2020+
  • GLE (V167): 2019+ (Including Facelift Models)
  • GLS (X167): 2019+ (Including Facelift Models)
  • EQC (N293): 2018+
  • EQA (H243): 2020+ (Including 2023+ Facelift Models)
  • EQB (X243): 2021+ (Including 2023+ Facelift Models)
  • G-Wagon (W463): 2018+
  • E-Class (W213): Facelift 2020+
  • EQE (V295): 2022+
  • S-Class (W223): 2021+
  • EQS (V297): 2022+
  • SL AMG (R232): 2022+
  • GT 4 Door (X290): 2021+
  • CLS (C257): Facelift models with MBUX

Important Note for Latest Touch Control Steering Models: If your Mercedes is a newer facelift model with touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel (typically 2023+ facelifts and models like W206 C-Class and W223 S-Class), a Distronic Pro retrofit might be more suitable.

What Does the Adaptive Cruise Control Retrofit Include?

Our adaptive cruise control retrofit kit provides everything you need to upgrade your Mercedes:

  1. Genuine Mercedes-Benz Steering Wheel Buttons: We supply the correct buttons for your specific model and steering wheel style, ensuring perfect integration and appearance. Buttons are ordered based on your VIN to guarantee compatibility and match your interior (e.g., silver or black, left or right-hand drive).
  2. RemoteOBD Dongle: This device allows us to remotely code and activate the adaptive cruise control functionality in your vehicle’s computer system.
  3. Coding Credits: The service includes the necessary coding credits to enable adaptive cruise control.
  4. Radar Sensor (for GLC & C-Class 2018+/2019+): For GLC and C-Class models within the specified years, a replacement radar sensor is required and included in the kit. This is a simple swap, as detailed below.

Simple Installation and Remote Activation

The physical installation is designed to be user-friendly and can often be completed in around 15 minutes.

  • Steering Wheel Button Replacement: Replacing the steering wheel buttons is a straightforward process. A video guide is often available to assist you step-by-step.
  • Radar Sensor Swap (GLC/C-Class): For GLC and C-Class models requiring a sensor swap, it involves rotating the front Mercedes star to remove it, unclipping the old sensor, and replacing it with the new one. The wiring is plug-and-play, requiring no soldering or wire splicing.

Once the physical parts are installed, we handle the adaptive cruise control activation remotely. Using the provided RemoteOBD dongle, we connect to your vehicle and perform the necessary coding to enable the system. This remote service means you can be located anywhere in the world and still benefit from our retrofit solution.

Pricing and Important Considerations

The price listed includes all parts (steering wheel buttons, RemoteOBD dongle, and radar sensor for GLC/C-Class when needed) and the remote coding service for adaptive cruise control.

  • GLC/C-Class Supplement: Please note that for GLC (2019+) and C-Class (2018+) models, there is an additional £250 (excluding VAT) charge due to the inclusion of the replacement radar sensor.
  • GLE/GLS Supplement: For GLE/GLS models, there is a £35 extra charge because an additional connector part behind the buttons needs to be replaced to ensure compatibility with the US-made connector.

Vehicle Requirements:

  • Automatic Transmission: Your Mercedes must have an automatic transmission to be compatible with this retrofit.

Dispatch Time:

  • Please allow up to 5 business days for dispatch as we order the correct, genuine Mercedes-Benz parts specifically for your vehicle based on your VIN. We typically dispatch within 1-2 days and will keep you informed of any delays.
