These sought-after 1950s benz models are scheduled to be auctioned during the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance event in August. Automotive collectors and enthusiasts are keenly anticipating these two Benzes as they prepare to go under the hammer at the renowned Monterey auction block in California later this year.
The 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing coupe distinguishes itself as the rarer of the two. Its original owner custom-ordered a unique British Racing Green exterior finish, complemented by a tan interior. Having journeyed only approximately 16,000 miles, this Gullwing remains in the same family that originally acquired it, untouched by restoration or modifications throughout its impressive 60-plus years.
Acquired two years later by the same family, the 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300SL roadster is equally captivating, although slightly less unique in its Silver-Blue Metallic exterior and gray leather interior. Notably, it includes its original, fitted luggage set. While this roadster has experienced somewhat more use, indicated by its 38,000 miles, it mirrors the coupe in its entirely original and unrestored condition.
Gooding & Company’s current price estimations reflect the exceptional nature of these vehicles. The 1955 Gullwing is anticipated to fetch between $1 million and $1.3 million, while the 1957 roadster is estimated at $800,000 to $1 million. Prospective buyers should prepare their finances and attend the Pebble Beach auctions this August for a chance to acquire one of these potentially last remaining single-owner 1950s Mercedes-Benz 300SL models.
