Embarking on the journey of car modification is an exciting venture, and for me, it began with my recent acquisition – a stylish 2018 Mercedes-Benz CLA 250, equipped with the AMG styling package. Eager to personalize and enhance my new ride, I’m documenting the modifications and seeking input from fellow enthusiasts as I navigate the world of car customization. Follow along as I detail the upgrades to my 2018 Benz Cla 250, blending aesthetics with performance enhancements.
Unleashing a More Aggressive Sound: Muffler Delete (December 21, 2017)
My first step towards modifying my 2018 CLA 250 was to amplify its auditory presence. Opting for a muffler delete proved to be a cost-effective solution, coming in at just $140. Since the CLA 250’s tips are integrated into the bumper, additional tips weren’t necessary, streamlining the process. A Y-pipe was expertly welded in after the mufflers were removed, a quick procedure that took no more than an hour.
The result? A significantly more aggressive exhaust note. The sound is deeper and more pronounced, with a pleasing minimal drone during regular driving. Adding to the sporty character, the car now produces occasional backfires and crackles, especially noticeable in first gear when maneuvering in parking lots. While the current exhaust note is a marked improvement, I’m already contemplating further enhancements to achieve an even more voluminous sound in the future.
Enhancing the Front Facade: Aero Kit Installation (March 3, 2018)
To visually align my CLA 250 with the more aggressive aesthetics of the facelift CLA 45 AMG, I invested in a front aero kit. Sourcing a front splitter online for $300 with free shipping, I was pleasantly surprised by the swift delivery, arriving within a week despite an initial estimate of a month. The specific kit I purchased, mirroring the facelift CLA 45 aero package, was obtained from eBay (https://www.ebay.com/itm/PAINTED-Black-MERCEDES-BENZ-W117-CLA-Facelift-Front-Bumper-Lip-Splitter-Flaps-/323042661352?vxp=mtr&hash=item4b36d7d3e8).
Installation on my 2018 benz cla 250, which features the AMG styling, required moderate modification. While not a comprehensive installation guide, detailed information can be found on the Mercedes CLA forum (http://www.mercedescla.org/forum/34…3-cla-front-aero-kit-2017-amg-line-faclift-flics-canards-etc-picture-heavy.html). The kit itself is impressively crafted, boasting a gloss black finish and quality comparable to OEM aero components on the CLA 45. Unfortunately, I don’t have installation photos, but the results speak for themselves in the images below.
Rear Aggression: CLA 45 Diffuser Installation (March 29, 2018)
Continuing the visual transformation, I turned my attention to the rear of my 2018 benz cla 250. Installing a CLA 45 facelift diffuser for $300, including free shipping, added a significantly more aggressive touch to the car’s rear end. The installation process was straightforward, taking approximately an hour with no modifications needed, a testament to the part’s fitment.
The diffuser arrived with silver quad tips, but I opted to retain the silver finish to complement the existing silver and black contrasting theme of my car, in line with the night package elements. This upgrade dramatically enhances the rear aesthetics, giving the CLA 250 a lower and more planted stance, completing the sporty visual package.
Enhancing Privacy and Style: Window Tinting (May 6, 2018)
After a brief pause in modifications, I addressed both the aesthetics and privacy of my 2018 Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 with a window tint. For a total of $250, I opted for a premium tint package. The front driver and passenger windows received a 35% ceramic tint, known for its superior heat rejection properties. For the rear two windows and the rear windshield, I chose a 35% high-performance tint.
The completed tint job not only enhances the car’s sleek appearance but also provides added privacy and reduces heat buildup inside the cabin. The result is a subtle yet impactful upgrade that improves both the look and comfort of the CLA 250.
Next on the Horizon: Performance Intake
Looking ahead, my focus is shifting towards performance modifications, starting with the intake system. I’m currently considering two options: intakes from HG Motorsports and AEM. While the AEM intake is significantly more budget-friendly at $325 compared to the HG Motorsports option at $600, I’m keen to understand if there are tangible performance differences between the two. Any insights or recommendations on choosing between AEM and HG Motorsports intakes for my 2018 benz cla 250 would be greatly appreciated as I plan my next upgrade. Stay tuned for more updates on my modification journey!
